A Bakehouse for Your Village
Back to the roots is on everyone's lips. The current global crises show that it makes sense to reflect on the original in some areas. Strengthening the community in the immediate vicinity, because solidarity also means security in the event of unexpected events. The topics of village community, village life, and village development are important. Many villages want to return to the bakehouse, want to organize baking days, and build or expand a club life. Often there are still old, dilapidated, or neglected bakehouses. These are gems that can often be revitalized with united strength. And we explain how it's done.
1. Option: An old bakehouse is available
If there is still an old bakehouse in your village worth renovating, and a club with many helping hands is available, then the prerequisites are good. Once the ownership matters are clarified, you need expert guidance or ambitious hobby craftsmen and the means for the material. Often, stones must be replaced. And not to forget: the chimney sweep must approve the fire site. More on funding opportunities for bakehouses and bakehouse clubs below.
2. Option: A club wants to build a bakehouse
We receive inquiries from clubs all over Germany that want to build bakehouses. We offer wood-burning oven kits in various sizes and shapes. They represent a cost-effective way to realize a high-quality oven by self-construction. Of course, basic questions stand at the beginning:
- How should the oven be fired? Gas or wood?
- Where is it located? Indoors or outdoors?
- How large should the oven be? Anything is possible from 100cm diameter to 120cm x 160cm.
- What area is available?
- What are the environmental conditions? Free plot or listed half-timber next door?
Our kits come from Italy, produced and manufactured there. No goods from China. Our supplier Valoriani uses only the best raw materials, the composition of the fireclay stones and dome parts is a secret recipe passed down through generations. This quality and craftsmanship is the big advantage. We recommend and deliver the perfect insulation material and provide expert and personal advice. Furthermore, we offer various services.
- You can pick up the oven with accessories at our site and build it by yourself. Depending on the oven shape and size, you need to establish a stable base for it.
- You live too far away and want to build the oven yourself, but it needs to be delivered. No problem. We send the oven via forwarder to a mutually agreed requested date.
- You need professional help in building the oven. We also offer the construction of our ovens. Contact us and we will clarify the details.
- It is also possible to book a cook through us after the oven is built, who will guide you through the first steps in operating the oven or help during the first bakehouse festival. Contact us.
Funding opportunities: Financing a bakehouse as a club
There are several ways to finance a bakehouse. Many clubs have sufficient expertise and financial reserves for the purchase of the oven and self-construction. Furthermore, there are of course possibilities like collecting donations for the bakehouse, organizing festivals, or using grants. This path is associated with some effort. But there is a good overview page where you can search for funding programs based on keywords. Distinctions are made between regional funding opportunities from the federal states and European funding. The application process is easier the closer the funder is. Local or state funding is easier to obtain than money from a European funding pot. However, it can be interesting if the project is of a certain extent. Here is the link to the database to search for funding opportunities: Funding Database of the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy.
